The Grey Ladies

Paranormal Investigators located in the Scottish Borders, United Kingdom

Official Report:-

EDINBURGH MANSION, SATURDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2005

Our investigation commenced within this Edinburgh Georgian mansion with our usual pre-vigil work.  The team split into two groups.  Local Clairvoyant Medium, Joyce M Brown, commenced with a walk round, accompanied with Nicola and Pat, whilst Angela and Carole conducted baseline tests.  Throughout the building, the temperature varied, with the pottery room giving the coldest reading.  The EMF meter fluctuated slightly in the kitchen and in one of the halls, but apart from that everywhere else appeared “normal”.

Meanwhile, the walk round started in the library.  Joyce picked up sadness, but pointed out it wasn’t a sad room as such, but that it was felt from people who had used the room.  She felt that the lady, whose photo frame sat on the mantelpiece, was welcoming the team into the building.  There were a lot of books in the room which had been there a considerable amount of time.  It was felt that since the building was first constructed, the room had since been divided into two.  A classic sign of this is when the fireplace is off centre.  A free standing lamp began to circle clockwise and later anti-clockwise whilst the group was standing motionless.  Then it stopped.  Joyce asked the spirit lady to move the lamp again and it appeared to do so.  Then Joyce said she heard a voice saying “I’m tired of this game”.  Joyce told us that the spirit lady was sitting on the couch looking out into the garden, saying to her that the land where the Synagogue sits used to be part of her garden too.  Also part of the garden was an orchard.  Pat remarked that she had picked up on the name “Rosemary”.

The group then moved into the kitchen where Joyce immediately felt a cold draught and a strong energy through her hands, sensing that she had just confused or muddled someone from the spirit world, which could be compared to someone having dementia.  She felt there was a lady present who felt isolated, then she felt a bright light above her and the same spirit looking down on us with a keen interest in our work.  The date 1806 was picked up but nothing further was felt in the room.

They then moved along into what is known as the Garden Room.  Joyce sensed this may have been a former butler’s room at some point.  The laundry room followed, but nothing was felt in here either.

We then moved through to the front entrance area of the building.  Joyce announced that the same spirit lady who was in the Library with us earlier was accompanying us and that we had just been greeted by a Nun that Joyce “saw” to her right.  At the same time Pat announced that she felt something “watching” her whilst she was filming the group.  Joyce told us that the Nun was telling her that the property was built on a place of pilgrimage where Nuns like herself and Monks would help weary pilgrims on their route through nearby Holyrood Park by giving them healing water and sometimes mead and/or wine – much of which were gifts to them from European travelers, e.g. from Italy.  Joyce said the Nun then indicated that this happened several centuries ago, perhaps as early as the 11th or 12th Century.  Joyce said she was also being told that this community had been self sufficient and they grew their own fruit and vegetables (where the back garden is) and that there would have been flowers whose petals would have been crushed to use as “fragrance” like an early air freshener.

Joyce then pointed out that the current property owners may benefit from using a fan in the rooms used during the day to clear the areas of any residual negative energy, (if they do not already do so), in order to have the rooms ready for the next people using them.

Next, they moved into what is currently being used as a meditation room.  Immediately Joyce said she felt a very heavy weight developing on her shoulders and began to feel tired and have a headache.  She felt sorry for the plant sitting near the window, as she said it was suffering through absorbing bad energy in the room.  A more positive point to note was that the room housed a giant rose quartz crystal.  Joyce said she could smell rubber.  Then Pat said she began feeling claustrophobic and also developing a headache and picking up a smell of camphor. The feeling that this had definitely been someone’s bedroom was mentioned.

Upstairs to another healing room was next.  Like chalk and cheese, this room’s atmosphere was light and airy and had the group feeling really comfortable.

It was then back downstairs and along and up the other staircase which led up to what is currently known as the studio.  A feeling of cool air was immediately felt in here.  Joyce sensed a lot of spirit energy.  A lot of interesting class activities are carried out in this room and it was sensed that spirit liked to join in with singing and dancing.  At this point, Joyce picked up on sadness as if a spirit had remembered that she had formerly been there.  Then a few names were picked up on – “Anne”, “Margaret” and later the feeling of a Franciscan monk wearing the traditional brown robes with tassels.  This was apparently a visiting spirit who began to pray and bless the site on which this building stood.  Joyce then went back even further to when this site was green fields and open countryside where the monks used to work and live.  He was showing Joyce that he was well aware that the building currently has spiritual purposes and that there was no need to feel afraid.  He was carrying and showing her a cross.  He even asked her if there was any work that he or other monks could do for us.  She felt he may well show up again later in our vigils.

The walk round was now completed.  We had a break, then Joyce headed off to leave us alone to commence with the night vigils.

Vigil Reports

The Library – 11pm.  Angela and Carole – Summary

A faint light anomaly was captured on camera going across the table.  A short glass tilting experiment was carried out, but after five minutes, Carole had to stop as she felt really sick.

The Pottery Room – Midnight – Angela and Carole – Summary

The camcorder battery life quickly diminished.  No sign of activity in here.

The Meditation Room – 1am – Angela and Carole – Summary

Absolutely nothing picked up on in here.

The Library – 2am – Full Team – Summary

Individuals felt slight emotions.  Pat came up with the name “Rosemary” again.

The Studio – 2.30am – Full Team – Summary

Nicola commented that she felt the room seemed quieter that when she was in here earlier with Pat.  Noises from outside the door prompted Angela to investigate further.  Despite checking, nothing was found, although the door insisted on closing itself – but not fully catching on the lock.  Carole confirmed that the door shut perfectly well earlier on.

The Kitchen – 3.15am – Full Team – Summary

A couple of light anomalies were captured in here and people were sensing there was something in there with us.  Angela thought she may have seen a shadow near the door.

Final Comments

Although Joyce, as a Clairvoyant Medium, certainly appeared to be picking up on lots of “spirits” and information for us, the Team themselves only experienced the odd noise (which may have been natural or from an outside source), a few personal emotions and a few light anomalies on this occasion.  Although the moving lamp was interesting, skeptics could argue that it could have been a reaction (or delayed reaction) to the team moving around in the room causing the floorboards to vibrate.

Joyce gave us lots of historical information and it would be good to hear from the property owners if anything can be verified.

It was a great experience for the team and we thank the property owners for granting us permission to carry out our work in this magnificent building.
