ANNUAL EDINBURGH GHOSTFEST 2010 - THURSDAY 18TH TO TUESDAY 23RD MARCH 2010

The GhostFest takes place in March this year, not May.  The team are currently deciding on which events they will be participating in and will post the events on this page very soon.

KIELDER CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, FRIDAY 2ND APRIL 2010

The team return to carry out another night of experiments and series of vigils.  All results will be stored and compared against our findings when we lead the annual ghost walk round the castle in November 2010 with members of the public.

SECRET LOCATION, SCOTTISH BORDERS SATURDAY 15th MAY 2010

The team have invited our friends from Dumfries - Mostly Ghostly - to help us investigate this secret location in the Scottish Borders.  Due to the size of the building and the multiple floors, two teams are required.  The Grey Ladies investigated this place several years ago and we were delighted with the levels of activity experienced on the night.  It's a honour to go back to such a large property with a rich and interesting history.

MORE 2010  EVENT DATES TO FOLLOW SHORTLY.

Completed Events in 2009:-

JEDBURGH CASTLE JAIL, SCOTTISH BORDERS - SATURDAY 28TH MARCH 2009

AS FEATURED ON LIVING TV'S "MOST HAUNTED" PROGRAMME

The Grey Ladies team and a few other selected paranormal investigators and friends spent the night inside Jedburgh Castle Jail conducting our own set of investigations and tests.  We were joined by privately invited guests.  The Castle Jail was one of the first overnight investigations carried out by the team shortly after they we were established back in 2005.  Unfortunately, on our return visit, we were disappointed with the lack of activity experienced on the night!

KIELDER CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, FRIDAY 10th APRIL 2009  (GOOD FRIDAY)

Returning once again to this fascinating location, alone with no staff, we experienced various unexplained noises outside and inside.  One was described as if "someone" had lifted a large sheet of corrugated metal and thrown it several feet in front of themselves outside near the side entrance.  We (bravely!) left the first floor and went downstairs to investigate, but there was no sign of anything being disturbed, no sign of anyone going about and it wasn't a windy night.  We also heard voices on the staircase and faint music again - as if classical rehersals were taking place.  We're going back in November to head some ghost walks with the public.

BROUGHAM HALL, CARLISLE - JOINT INVESTIGATION WITH OUR FRIENDS AT MOSTLY GHOSTLY.

SATURDAY 18TH APRIL 2009 - AS FEATURED ON LIVING TV'S "MOST HAUNTED" PROGRAMME

We were invited to join our colleagues at Mostly Ghostly to investigate this amazing location in Carlisle which has featured on Most Haunted.

The following is an extract from www.broughamhall.co.uk :-

"Brougham Hall stands on a site which has been a fortified home since at least 1307.   It reached it’s zenith in Victorian Times, when it became known as the Windsor of the North, and the home of the Lord Chancellor of England.   As a halfway house between Windsor and Balmoral, Brougham played host to King Edward V11 and the future King George V on numerous occasions.   In 1934 however, the hall fell on hard times but was rescued from dereliction in 1985. In the last decade, and for many years to come, Brougham has been and will be the subject of the largest country house restoration project in England.".

Well this place did NOT disappoint!  This was by far THE best investigation we have been involved with!  A special report will be available soon from Mostly Ghostly, so we will be posting a report page separately showing a link to the report and possibly photos.  Not to be missed!!  It restored our faith in the paranormal!!

HALLOWEEN NIGHT, SATURDAY 31st OCTOBER 2009

After a hectic and challenging summer/autumn for all members of the team for various reasons, we re-commenced with our investigating duties at Halloween and went on a mystery tour (only Angela knowing where we were going!).  We ended up at an undisclosed cemetary within the Berwickshire area and the night was eeriely still and quiet.  It was only later on, around the witching hour that the rain came on and ended the vigils.  Strange lights and unexplained noises........ hooting owls...... all made Halloween night very atmospheric indeed.

KIELDER CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, FRIDAY 13th NOVEMBER 2009  (GOOD FRIDAY)

Leading the annual ghost walk, The Grey Ladies took members of the public on two separate groups around the cast (8pm to 10pm and 10pm to Midnight).  One of the attic rooms was set up to host solo vigils for the brave souls who dared to spend some time up there alone.....  A report will be posted on here in due course.

Completed Events in 2008:-

KIELDER CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, FRIDAY 12th DECEMBER 2008

On on return visit, some very interesting things were happening - or were they all just in our minds?  We were convinced two male staff members were calling by and heading up the stairs to where our base room was - because we heard two distinct male voices talking.  After checking with the Castle Staff by email a couple of days later, it was confirmed no one had been in the castle that night with us.  Secondly, whilst carrying out a vigil, sitting at the top of the main staircase, we distinctly all heard what could only be described as musical rehersals - violin and piano playing, in particular.  This was a former hunting lodge, so we suggested to the Castle Staff that perhaps formal social gatherings occured here which included playing music, but they advised it was unlikely, as the place wasn't thought to be used in this way - but then, who knows??  We shall definitely be returning there at some point.

MEDIAEVAL NIGHT - WEDNESDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 08

CHILLINGHAM CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND

The team returned to take part in a Mediaeval Fund Raising Night at the Castle.  Ticketholders had the chance to watch magicians, have a tarot card reading, enjoy a tasty supper and be taken in small groups to join us in the Dungeon on short vigils.  The evening flew past with so many activities to get through, so only a few small groups managed to brave the dungeon!  Amongst the "experiences", guests commented on how cold the dungeon was, as well as the feeling of being watched or sensing something was touching them.  Bones of a young girl - the last soul to be thrown down into the pit below, still remain.

HALLOWEEN NIGHT, FRIDAY 31ST OCTOBER 08

CHILLINGHAM CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND

We participated in the castle's official ghost tour on the night of Halloween.  Due to the awful wet weather, we cancelled our post-tour plan to go round permitted areas to carry out short vigils.  Maybe next time?

OLD HOTEL, INVERNESS, SATURDAY 7th JUNE 08

We were invited by a member of Scottish Paranormal to help investigate an old hotel which was built in the style of a castle hundreds of years ago and even has it's own secret passageways and dungeon..... We conducted various experiments and sat through many vigils.  Paul, who invited us, had stayed there the previous night and had experienced some very strange paranormal events - apparently, his bedside table drawer opened during the night and strange lights appeared above him over the bed.  The night we were there, however, the spirits were quiet - we did hear about the experiences in the past from current hotel staff.  An extremely interesting location with very grand rooms including the ballroom and the reception area.  The complimentary coffee, homemade shortbread and tablet made the journey even more worthwhile!!

EDINBURGH GHOSTFEST 9th-18th MAY 2008

Saturday 17th May 2008

Part 1 - The Edinburgh Playhouse - we went to see Colin Fry performance from 7.30pm until 10pm.  He was very impressive and was especially smart arriving on stage in a very grand kilt!!

Part 2 - The Edinburgh Playhouse - we were then involved in conducting a paranormal investigation inside the theatre from 11pm until 1am.  Alongside Ghostfinders Scotland and members of the public, we carried out various vigils and experiments inside the main auditorium.  Shadows were seen, and cold drafts were felt.  Interesting apparent EVP sounds were captured on the voice recorders.  Some of the group conducted ouija board tests, but nothing happened.  It was a priviledge to be able to sit quietly in an old theatre to appreciate the grandness of the place.  Not a lot happened, but it was an experience all the same.

KIELDER CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, FRIDAY 2nd MAY 2008

The Forestry Commission invited us back to carry out a further investigation.  The evening was very calm - very little breeze and a lot milder than when we were there in March.  The evening, however, produced very little activity.  There were some bangs, thuds and rustles at various points during the night, but the spirits were mostly keeping themselves to themselves, despite our best efforts to persuade them to come forward!  We have permission to return again when convenient to have another go!

PRIVATE HOME INVESTIGATION, SCOTTISH BORDERS, FRIDAY 7th MARCH 2008

The team investigated an old house in a Borders village.  The spirit of a man of authority followed us around, apparently holding important papers (title deeds, perhaps?).  His negative energy seemed to dominate an upstairs bedroom, which everyone felt when they entered the room.  Impressive orb-like images were caught on film.  The rest of our findings were discussed privately with the owners at the end of the vigils.

KIELDER CASTLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, FRIDAY 21st MARCH 2008

By kind permission of The Forestry Commission, Kielder, The Grey Ladies returned to Kielder Castle (following our Halloween visit working with the public) to conduct our own investigation.  Joining us were newbie paranormal investigators from Dumfries and Galloway, a small team called "Mostly Ghostly" and a friend of ours, Andy, who has an interest in the paranormal.  Aside from the usual light anomolies and natural creaking sounds of the building, a fascinating event happened in the large attic room.  We left a digital voice recorder running up there - the kind that only records if it picks up sound.  On playback, there were long dragging sounds of what we all agreed was like a heavy sack across the floor boards.  We tried to re-create the same sound later in the investigation, using one of the heavy sacks that was in the same room - and on playback of the voice recorder, captured an identical sound.  Everyone was accounted for when the machine was left up in the attic the first time.  It was a very windy night, but yet, during periods of time when the wind had died down, a particular window frame kept rattling when the other windows did not.  We checked for tree branches hitting it, but nothing was there.  We also heard like a small animal scratching a downstairs door trying to get in during a vigil, but when we opened it, there was nothing there.  We closed the door again and the scratching started once more.  There were also icy blasts felt across the room we used as a base, when no doors downstairs were being opened or anyone was walking around.  Voices were also heard coming up one of the main staircases - we though it was the other team, but they hadn't yet arrived!  An interesting night indeed.  And we're back for more on Friday 2nd May.....
